Not sure how ready you or your child are for university or work? The free Future Check tells you in about a minute.
What the Future Check asks
Six quick questions, no sign-up needed to start:
- Who is taking it - a parent or the learner.
- The learner's grade.
- How confident they are with Microsoft Office.
- What matters most: university, work, better marks or everyday confidence.
- Which skills feel weakest.
- Their internet and device set-up.
What you get
- A future-readiness score out of 100.
- A skills breakdown showing where you are now against where you need to be.
- A six-month path, with your weakest areas marked as priorities.
It's a self-assessment to guide your next step, not a test. Your answers stay private, and you can retake it any time.
Start with your gaps, not page one.
The six courses
The path follows our Microsoft 365 programme, one course a month:
- Microsoft Word (8 lessons): formatting, styles, tables of contents, APA and Harvard referencing, mail merge.
- Microsoft Excel (8 lessons): formulas, IF functions, VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP, charts and PivotTables.
- Microsoft PowerPoint (6 lessons): slide design, animations, academic presentations and Presenter View.
- Microsoft Outlook (4 lessons): professional email, inbox organisation and calendars.
- Microsoft Teams (4 lessons): online meetings, file collaboration and group projects.
- Digital Foundations (4 lessons): file management, OneDrive, PDFs, shortcuts and staying safe online.
How the courses work
- Short lessons, quizzes and badges keep learners on track.
- Each course ends with a practical project, like a formal report and CV or a budget dashboard, marked by a teacher with written feedback.
- Lessons can be saved for offline use when data is tight.
- Learners who complete the programme receive a certificate.
You'll need Microsoft 365, which many learners get free through their school. The web versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint work for most exercises.
